Singapore Pays for Six Months of Your AI Subscription Now
Take one eligible SkillsFuture course and pick six months of ChatGPT Plus, Google AI Pro, Manus, Microsoft 365 Personal or Singtel AI Pass, free. The age dropped from 25 to 18, the label to look for, how to find the shortest eligible course, and the exact claim steps.
Singapore is now paying for six months of a premium AI subscription for any citizen aged 18 or over who completes one eligible SkillsFuture course. You pick one of five tools, ChatGPT Plus, Google AI Pro, Manus, Microsoft 365 Personal or Singtel AI Pass, and it went live on 16 September 2026.
I covered this back in August when it was still an announcement with no details attached. It's official now, and one thing changed that matters more than anything else in the scheme.
What changed since the announcement?
The age. It was announced at 25 and above. It's now 18 and above, which brings in every polytechnic and university student in the country, plus everyone in their first few years of work.
That's a much larger group than the original version, and it's the group with the least spare cash for a subscription and the most years ahead of them to compound the skill. If you were told this wasn't for you earlier in the year, check again.

What do you actually get?
Six months of one subscription, your choice from five.

Two rules on that choice and both are strict. You pick one, and you cannot change it after you submit the request form. And you can redeem one subscription in total, no matter how many eligible courses you end up taking.
So the choice is worth five minutes of thought rather than five seconds.

For scale, ChatGPT Plus is SGD 30 a month here, so six months is SGD 180 of value for attending one course. The others are in the same range.
My own take on which to pick, and it's only a take. If you write, research and work mostly in text, ChatGPT Plus or Google AI Pro. If you already live in Word, Excel and Outlook for work, Microsoft 365 Personal quietly gets used more than either. Manus is the interesting one if you specifically want an agent that goes and does multi-step tasks rather than answering you. Singtel AI Pass makes most sense if you're already a Singtel customer and want it bundled.
How do you find an eligible course?
This is where people go wrong, because not every AI course counts.

There's a "Free AI sub" label on the listing. That label is the whole test. A course without it does not qualify, however AI-focused it looks, and the course has to end on 16 September 2026 or later.
On finding the shortest one: I'd rather give you the method than a list, because course listings and intakes change week to week and a list published today is wrong by next month. Search MySkillsFuture for AI courses, then filter by the "Free AI sub" label, and sort or scan by duration. The short ones are typically one or two days. Confirm the label on the actual listing page before you enrol, not from the search results tile.
The thing worth knowing, which the portal does not make obvious: your choice of tool is not tied to which course you take. Any eligible course gets you the same five options. So optimise the course for your own time and interest, not for the subscription.
The claim steps
Five steps, and the one people miss is the deadline in the middle.
- Check the listing carries the "Free AI sub" label, and that it ends on or after 16 September 2026.
- Enrol and attend. Attendance has to be recorded, which is the provider's job, not yours, but it's worth confirming they've done it.
- Wait for the redemption email. It comes after your attendance is recorded rather than on the last day of the course.
- Submit the request form within 60 days of that email. This is the step that expires. Miss the window and the entitlement goes with it.
- Follow the activation instructions if your request is successful, and pick your one tool at that point.
FAQ
Who is eligible for the SkillsFuture free AI subscription?
Singapore citizens aged 18 and above who complete an eligible SkillsFuture course. It was announced at 25 and above and was lowered to 18.
How do I know if a SkillsFuture course qualifies for the free AI subscription?
Look for the Free AI sub label on the course listing, and check the course ends on or after 16 September 2026. A course without the label doesn't qualify.
Can I change my free AI subscription tool after choosing?
No. You pick one of the five when you submit the request form, and you can't change it afterwards. You can only redeem one subscription in total.
Is there a deadline to claim the SkillsFuture free AI subscription?
Yes. You have 60 days from the redemption email to submit the request form, and the entitlement lapses if you miss it.
Can I use the SkillsFuture AI subscription and NTUC UTAP together?
They're separate schemes, and nothing I've read makes them exclusive, so a union member could plausibly use both on different tools. Check with each scheme before relying on that.
Is this the same as the NTUC scheme?
No, and people are mixing them up constantly, so it's worth a paragraph.
This one runs through SkillsFuture, where you take a course and get six months of one tool free. The NTUC UTAP one works the other way round, giving union members 50% back on what they already spend on any of 21 approved AI tools, up to a yearly cap.
They're separate schemes with separate eligibility, and as far as I can tell nothing stops a union member who takes an eligible course from using both, on different things. Six months free on the tool you pick here, and half back on a second tool through UTAP. I'd check with each scheme rather than take my word for that, but the schemes don't reference each other as exclusive.
What strikes me about both, put together, is how hard the country is pushing on this specific skill. A government does not pay for a few hundred thousand subscriptions because it's a nice perk. If you've been meaning to get properly good at this, it will not be cheaper than it is right now.
