Idlen Pays You to Wait for ChatGPT and Claude to Answer
A free browser extension that shows an ad while your AI generates a response and pays you a few cents for it. What it claims you can earn, what it says about your prompts, and the reason I would keep expectations low.
Idlen is a free browser extension that fills the dead seconds while ChatGPT or Claude is generating an answer with an ad, and pays you a couple of cents each time. The company's own figure is EUR 0.02 to 0.05 per ad view, and it claims regular users land somewhere around EUR 30 to 60 a month.
It's a genuinely clever idea and I want to be straight about it before anything else: it's a very small, very new product, and everything below is what the company says rather than what anyone has independently measured.
How does it work?
You install the extension, keep using ChatGPT or Claude exactly as you already do, and an ad plays in the waiting time between hitting send and the answer arriving.

The insight it's built on is real. Every prompt you send has a gap of several seconds where you sit and watch text appear, and across a heavy day that is a meaningful amount of attention nobody was monetising. Turning it into inventory is a neat piece of thinking.
There's no work involved, which is also the point. You don't complete surveys, watch things deliberately, or change what you were doing.
What can you actually earn?
Their published tiers, and I'd read these as marketing rather than as data.

Light usage is EUR 15 to 30 a month, regular is 30 to 60, heavy is 60 to 100, with a power tier above. The home page headline rounds all that to EUR 20 to 100.
Work backwards from the per-ad rate and you can see what those numbers require. At EUR 0.02 to 0.05 an ad, EUR 60 a month means somewhere between 1,200 and 3,000 prompts in a month. That's 40 to 100 prompts every single day, which is a heavy professional user rather than someone asking a few questions a week. The tiers are internally consistent, they just describe far more usage than most people have.
There's also a EUR 50 cash-out threshold, which matters if you're a light user. At the bottom tier you're waiting two to three months to reach a payout.
What about your prompts?
This is the question that decides it for most people, and the company addresses it directly.

Their stated position is that they never read your prompts or AI conversations, and their Privacy First section lists "your AI prompts or responses" among the things never accessed. What the extension detects, on their account, is the moment you press send, not what you typed.
I have no way to verify that from the outside, and neither do you. What I'd say is that the claim is specific and prominent rather than buried, which is better than vague, and that an extension with access to the page you type your prompts into is asking for meaningful trust whatever it says. If you use AI for client work, confidential material or anything under an NDA, that trust is not yours to give.
The part I would not skip
Look at the listing before you install anything.

It's published by JobPass. It has 2,000 users and a rating of 3.7 stars from three ratings.
Three ratings is three people, which is not a track record by any reading. A product at this stage can be completely legitimate and still fold in six months, change its terms, or turn out to pay far less in practice than its own tables suggest, and there is no body of user experience to check any of that against.
That's not an accusation. It's the honest description of a two-thousand-user product, and it's the thing a thirty-second video does not have room to say.
FAQ
How much can you actually earn with Idlen?
Idlen says EUR 0.02 to 0.05 per ad view, with regular users at EUR 30 to 60 a month. Reaching EUR 60 means roughly 40 to 100 prompts a day, so most people will earn less.
When can I cash out my Idlen earnings?
There's a EUR 50 threshold. At the lowest usage tier that's two to three months of use before a payout.
Does Idlen read my ChatGPT and Claude prompts?
The company says it never reads your prompts or AI conversations, only the moment you press send. That can't be verified from the outside, so don't run it on a browser you use for client or confidential work.
Is Idlen legitimate?
It's small and new: about 2,000 users and 3.7 stars from three ratings on the Chrome listing, published by JobPass. That isn't a track record either way, so treat the earnings tables as a ceiling.
Would I run it?
On my main working setup, no, because I use AI for client work and I'm not putting a third-party extension in that path for the price of a coffee a week.
On a personal browser where I'm asking about recipes and travel, it costs nothing to find out, and if the idea works it's free money for time you were losing anyway.
What I'd do either way is treat the earnings tiers as the ceiling rather than the expectation, install it on the account that matters least, and check back in a month against the EUR 50 threshold rather than against the headline.
The idea deserves to work. Dead time in an interface is real inventory, and somebody was always going to sell it. Whether this particular company is the one that lasts is a different question, and three ratings is too early to answer it.
